“Business news” outlets are pro-business to a fault and incapable of objectivity.

The “business news” media is pro-business to a fault and totally incapable of objectivity.

“Business news” TV and newspaper pages do a piss-poor job of reporting business as it relates to average Americans. If someone is employed in a way that has a television camera pointed at them on a daily basis, odds are, they’re in a different income bracket than most Americans and probably have a stock portfolio to worry about. Therefore, they’re completely out of touch with most Americans.

Business news media are employed by people who are educated and experienced entirely within the corporate elite culture. Much has been made in politics about the differentiation of people who shower before vs. after work. But business news media elites do not, and cannot, relate to the lives of regular working people, not to mention those who have to shower after work (or shower both before and after work) or, for that matter, those who wear name tags, aprons or uniforms to work. The people who report business news likely never had calluses on their hands, farmers’ tans, or holes in their shoes, and they’re minding their stock portfolios so their kids will never have to know those things either. Don’t expect them to tell you if you’re being screwed as an employee or as a consumer. They don’t know or care.

Regular Americans should view business news media with a careful eye and extreme skepticism until, if ever, they start employing a staff made up partially of representatives from employee groups, consumer protection experts, and progressive populists such as myself.
